Apple 2014 rumors describe relatively early iPhone 6 launch
With the release of two new (or one new and one kinda new) iPhone models this year, it should already be clear that we can’t just expect to see Apple keep on repeating old behavior any longer. That means that 2014 could be a year full of surprises from the company, and certainly based on the rumors we’ve been hearing, it sounds like Apple could take some bold steps to differentiate its product lineup. Today, we get to check out a report based on supply chain sources, looking at just when Apple might plan to introduce a couple of these new models.
For instance, the jumbo-sized 12.9-inch iPad, the one that’s been referred to as the iPad Pro, may be looking towards a release date sometime in October.
But well before that we could see a new iPhone arrive. There’s been talk about the idea of dual iPhone launch events next year, with at least one of them introducing a new, larger-sized handset. Supposedly, this bigger iPhone – which may step up to a five-inch display – could launch as soon as May, just five months away.
That’s tantalizingly soon, and more than just delivering a bigger version of the 5S, this report suggests that Apple could already have a new SoC ready for the phone, moving from the 28nm process in the A7 to a 20nm one.
If these rumors sound a little overly ambitious, consider the words of Apple’s Tim Cook, as revealed in a newly-leaked internal memo: here he talks about having “a lot to look forward to in 2014,” and specifically “big plans that we think customers are going to love.”
